Laboratory for the Study of Muscle Structure and Function & Clinical Studies

The Laboratory for the study of Muscle structure and function & Clinical Studies (MCS) aims at promoting research in the effects of exercise on the molecular structure and function of skeletal muscle and the understanding of muscle fatigue and weakness. Furthermore, MCS aims on the improvement – through exercise – of the quality of life of individuals with chronic diseases or injuries. Additionally, MCS researchers are also interested in the support of high-caliber athletes through the evaluation of their physical performance and service provision using methodologies of applied exercise physiology.

Living Lab Thessaly

The Living Lab Thessaly (LLT) is a consortium of private and public bodies that constitute an innovative pole of reference for knowledge promotion focusing on “Quality of Life”. As such, the LLT aspires to exploit the unique climate, economic and societal conditions of Greece and facilitate testing for quality of life services and strategies in large populations. LLT is a founding member of the European Network of Living Labs (http://www.openlivinglabs.eu/) and one of the few of its kind in the Southeastern Europe. Moreover, the partners who comprise the LLT are already active in European-driven community and research efforts.

Laboratory studying the Functional Architecture of Man in its Environment (Fame Lab)

FAME lab conducts research that illuminates latent physiological mechanisms that regulate human adaptations to environmental influences. While we explore the effects of various environmental factors, our main research focus lies on physiological mechanisms and neuronal pathways that regulate thermal homeostasis, including homeostatic and circadian inputs, behavioral thermoregulation, human temperature/heat regulation, responses to allostatic inputs (e.g., inflammatory stimuli), thermal basis of peripheral vasomotor tone, as well as hypothalamic regulation of thermal homeostasis.
